About this position

Champaign-Urbana drivers: a dedicated food account with preloaded trailers, regional lanes you will learn by heart, and home every week.

Your CDL is brand new? That is fine. This account brings on drivers right out of school.

The work

Dry van freight for one food customer. Most runs stay between Illinois, Ohio and Iowa, with an occasional load to Georgia. Trailers are preloaded and most deliveries are drop and hook. Day and night dispatches, some weekend work, and winter driving in the Midwest.

Pay and home time

  • $1,400 average weekly gross
  • $0.60 per mile to start, up to $0.70 as your experience grows
  • $25 stop pay
  • $685 a week while you train
  • About 2,200 miles a week
  • Home weekly for a 34 hour reset

Before you ask

  • “Do I unload anything?” Trailers are preloaded, and you drop and hook at most stops.
  • “Where is orientation?” Columbus, Ohio. Your hotel is covered and your one way bus ticket is reimbursed.
  • “Will my school hours count?” 120 hours or more from a CDL school, and yes.

Your path to solo

A recruiter calls and reviews your license and record with you before anything else. Orientation lasts no more than 2 days and pays $300 once you are hired. You then spend 4 to 6 weeks with a mentor learning backing, trip planning, logs and fueling. After that you drive your own assigned truck.

Requirements

  • Class A CDL, 21 or older
  • 120 hour school certificate, or 6 months of recent experience
  • No more than 2 moving violations in 2 years, no DUI/DWI in 10
  • DOT physical and hair and urine drug test
  • Live within 80 miles of Champaign

Benefits from day 31: medical, dental, vision, prescriptions, 401(k), stock purchase plan, paid vacation, and a free online degree for you and one family member.
