A global specialty-insurance organization is seeking a VP-level Data Management Lead to establish and scale its enterprise data-governance and management capabilities.

Reporting directly to the Chief Data Officer, this newly created leader will define the frameworks, standards, ownership models, and operating practices governing enterprise data. The role will lead master data management, metadata, lineage, stewardship, data quality, and data-as-a-product initiatives while connecting business priorities with modern data and analytics capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the enterprise data-management and governance strategy
  • Build and operationalize scalable governance frameworks
  • Establish data domains, ownership models, stewardship responsibilities, policies, and standards
  • Develop enterprise data councils and cross-functional governance forums
  • Lead Master Data Management strategy and implementation
  • Establish data-quality frameworks, controls, metrics, and improvement processes
  • Modernize enterprise metadata-management and data-lineage capabilities
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to identify critical data needs
  • Translate business requirements into trusted, reusable data products
  • Establish and mature data-as-a-product practices
  • Improve how enterprise data is documented, discovered, accessed, governed, and used
  • Partner with architecture, engineering, analytics, and business teams
  • Guide modernization across cloud data platforms and enterprise warehouses
  • Define measurable outcomes for governance, quality, stewardship, and transformation
  • Lead organizational adoption and cross-functional change
  • Present strategy, progress, risks, and recommendations to executive stakeholders

Role Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience in data management, governance, strategy, or transformation
  • At least five years of data leadership experience
  • Proven experience within commercial P&C, specialty insurance, or a closely related insurance environment
  • Demonstrated success building or maturing enterprise data-governance programs
  • Deep experience with Master Data Management
  • Strong knowledge of data stewardship, metadata management, and data lineage
  • Experience establishing data-quality frameworks and measurable controls
  • Experience defining data ownership, domains, policies, and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to implement data-as-a-product practices
  • Strong understanding of cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Databricks
  • Enterprise data-warehouse and ETL/ELT knowledge
  • SQL proficiency
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Power BI, Cognos, or Qlik
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder-management capabilities
  • Ability to lead transformation across business and technology organizations
  • Ability to work within the required New York/New Jersey hybrid model

Nice to Have:

  • Experience building enterprise data councils
  • Metadata or MDM platform implementation
  • AI and automation within data or analytics workflows
  • Agile Product Owner experience or certification
  • Python or R
  • Multi-domain governance experience
  • Data-product management experience
