Job Description
Lees Bradnor Thread Mill Technician — Heavy Shaft Threading
Can you hold lead over 40 feet? Do you instinctively counter deflection, vibration, and thermal growth on long shafts? If yes, Rempco wants to talk.
The ChallengeWe’re not cutting small fasteners. You’ll set up and run specialized thread milling equipment to produce precision lead screws, Acme and stub‑Acme profiles, and custom forms on shafts from 4 ft up to 40 ft in length.
What Success Looks Like- Flawless setups: dialed‑in centers, steady rests aligned, roller supports set, and safe crane work to position heavy bar stock.
- Relentless precision: tight control of lead accuracy, pitch diameter, and depth across extreme lengths.
- Inspection confidence: pitch micrometers, 3‑wire method, optical comparators, thread gages, calipers, and dial indicators used routinely.
- Tooling mastery: select, install, and adjust cutters, inserts, and indexables; choose feeds/speeds and coolant to suit the alloy.
- Material versatility: machine carbon and chromoly alloy steels (4140/4340), stainless steels, specialty bronzes, and other high‑tensile materials.
- Technical literacy: read engineering drawings, prints, and customer specs—and turn them into finished parts.
- At least 2 years running thread mills; direct experience with a Lees Bradnor Thread Mill is expected.
- Hands‑on experience with long, variable‑diameter shafts, cylinders, or rods, including techniques to control deflection, vibration, and thermal growth.
- Measurement skills: micrometers, dial indicators, thread pitch micrometers, and the 3‑wire method.
- Safe, independent use of overhead bridge cranes, rigging straps, steady rests, and roller supports.
- A reputation for reliability and detail—clean thread finishes, zero scrap, and impeccable tool maintenance.
- Your own tools are required.
- Ability to fabricate from technical drawings and to expertly make your own precision cutters.
- Direct line to impact: Your work supports naval and defense systems, aerospace launch assemblies, heavy rail, and advanced automation platforms.
- Elite capability: Accurately threading a 40‑foot screw is rare—few shops in North America can do it.
- Competitive pay, dependable hours, and comprehensive benefits.
- A clean, safety‑first environment with leadership that respects the trade and knows the floor.
