About the Role:
Medders Construction Co Inc is seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial Refrigeration Lead Technician to join our team in La Porte, TX. This is a hands-on leadership role that focuses on installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining commercial ice machines, walk-in coolers, and related refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently in fast-paced commercial environments. We service over 120 retail stores all over greater Houston and surrounding areas. If you're a seasoned pro ready to make an impact, we want to hear from you! This position comes with a company vehicle and fuel card.
Responsibilities:
- Lead installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial refrigeration systems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues on commercial equipment
- Respond to service calls in restaurants, convenience stores, industrial facilities, and other commercial sites
- Supervise and mentor junior technicians on job sites
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety codes and industry standards
- Perform preventative maintenance on refrigeration units, compressors, and condensing units
- Coordinate with project managers and clients to ensure timely job completion
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts documentation
- 2+ years of experience in commercial refrigeration installation and service
- EPA 608 Universal Certification and TDLR required
- Strong knowledge of refrigerants, HVAC/R systems, and electrical controls
- Prior lead or supervisory experience in a field technician role preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented, problem-solving mindset
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work in tight spaces, and tolerate hot/cold environments
- Familiarity with digital diagnostic tools and temperature monitoring systems
- Experience with major ice machine brands and commercial walk-in cooler systems
- Brazing, soldering, and refrigerant recovery skills
