About this position

About the Role

As a Kitchen Manager at The Standard, East Village, you will become part of a team that brings our food and beverage venues to life. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and passion for hospitality will help keep our kitchens stocked, organized, and ready to deliver memorable guest experiences.

You will support the Executive Chef and Director of Food & Beverage by coordinating daily purchasing, receiving, inventory, and kitchen storage operations. You will work closely with culinary leadership and vendors to maintain product availability, minimize waste, resolve delivery discrepancies, and support food cost controls.

You will also provide direction to our receiving, porter, and stewarding teams and coordinate kitchen equipment service and repairs. Most importantly, you are patient, proactive, and supportive toward your team, even during the busiest moments.

What We’re Looking For

While we take every detail of design and guest experience seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. “Standard People” are at the heart of our brand: vivid, dynamic, and engaging. You will understand the unique character of our venues and the city you represent.

Previous experience in procurement management is preferred. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are looking for someone with strong communication and management skills, a hands-on approach, and a commitment to keeping kitchen operations running smoothly. In addition to this, you will also:

  • Place orders using chef-approved specifications, inventory levels, established pars, and projected business volume.
  • Verify delivery quantities, weights, pricing, product quality, temperatures, and expiration dates against orders and invoices.
  • Reject unacceptable products, document discrepancies, and follow through with vendors until credits or replacements are received.
  • Maintain accurate stock counts, flag shortages and overstock, and complete monthly inventory with culinary leadership.
  • Ensure deliveries are promptly stored, labeled, dated, and rotated, maintaining organized refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas.
  • Track invoices, price changes, waste, transfers, and family meal usage; report concerns to the chef and Director of Food & Beverage.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets to support inventory tracking and food cost reporting across our venues.
  • Maintain positive relationships with food vendors, equipment and linen suppliers, and repair services.
  • Coordinate kitchen equipment repairs, service, and maintenance, and maintain equipment warranty records.
  • Supervise the stewarding team and coordinate cleaning projects throughout kitchens, storage areas, bars, and dining spaces.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of NYC Department of Health requirements for food handling, storage, and sanitation, and assist during inspections.
  • Have knowledge of BirchStreet and basic Excel skills.
  • Work efficiently, prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Have a NYC DOH Food Handler’s Certificate; ServSafe certification is a plus.
  • Be able to work standing for a minimum of eight hours a day, move throughout the building, and pull, push, carry, and lift at least 50 pounds.

We are defined by our richness of personality and diversity of background and lifestyle, so if you think you have what it takes to be a Kitchen Manager, we would love to hear from you!
